PHP meeting - tripug
August 17, 2006
I’m attending the latest tripug.org meeting. Simon is giving a presentation about web services. I’ll try to have a better writeup after the presentation.
UDDI - no one here is using it. We’ve agreed that it’s sort of a more theoretical than practical benefit for most broad uses.
WSDL - Web Service Definition Language
XMLRPC/SOAP/REST - methods of exchanging data
Typically all the exchanges are over HTTP, but nothing should stop you from exchanging XML messages over FTP, SMTP, etc.
Had some decent discussion about REST vs SOAP, and the pros and cons of each.
