Microsoft feed reader

Date September 10, 2006

There was a post today on Techcrunch about a new feed reader from Microsoft called “Microsoft Max”.  Well, to be more precise, it looks like a feed reader was added to an app that was previously just photo/picture sharing - at least, that’s what I read from the TC description.

I may give this a shot in a few days - I need to switch back in to Windows to prepare for a presentation at the upcoming MySQL group about ‘migrating Access to MySQL’.  If I get a chance to install this, I’ll post a short review.

What I did find a bit odd was how many people were bitching at TC about how the ‘photo sharing’ and ‘feed reader’ aspect should be completely separate apps.  I do agree that it’s not an immediately intuitive concept, and if the interface is poor, it’ll just be confusing.  But, if done properly, these do make sense together.  Photo sharing sites allow users to subscribe to feeds of people’s photos already.  Why is it OK for flickr to combine the idea of feed URLs and photo viewing, but not Microsoft?  I suspect this trend of app blurring will continue as new ways of sharing different types of information keep happening.
