Met The Steps

Date November 12, 2007

Had one big afternoon/evening in London, and took some crappy camera-phone pictures (will link to flickr when I get them off the phone).

At Gatwick airport at “the pip” smoothee/bagel shop, I met “The Steps“, an Austin band flying home from an apparently wild set of weekend shows in London. At first I thought it might have been the Click Five, but I wasn’t sure if there were 4 or 5 guys in this group. After waiting in line with one of them for a bagel with cream cheese, I said “so, are you guys in a band?” “Yeah”. “What band?” “The Steps”. “Where are you from?” “Austin”. That was pretty much it, but I did converse with one. If they ever get big, I can say I knew them when they didn’t get their cream cheese bagel. Apparently the bagel dude ran out of cream cheese, so decided to just make other orders without telling us they were waiting for more cream cheese.

That’s been my closest brush to fame recently, though I did also walk down Cavendish Avenue in London, where Paul McCartney, in theory, still owns a house. There were only about 20 to choose from, so I must have seen it, I just didn’t have the full address. :)

P.S.  Here’s a video of “The Steps“.  Pretty rockin’ little combo, imo.
