I had a quick but interesting interview with Nate Abele and Garrett Woodworth from the Lithium project. Take a listen over at webdevradio. Subscribe to the podcast series via iTunes or RSS to hear more in the future.

WebDevRadio podcast series – Interview with Brian Moon on scaling LAMP
This is the last in my MySQL conference series. Brian Moon, author of Phorum and Sr Developer at Dealnews.com, sat down and gave a recap of his two presentations. We have here nearly a full hour of his insights in to PHP/MySQL scalability, both with an app like Phorum and a more complex environment like Dealnews. The sound was pretty good, although there was a hum in the background I tried to get rid of via ‘noise removal’. I think this still sounds decent. Let me know if the sound is too awkward and I’ll give it another pass if need be.
Thanks to Brian for going over things in such detail! I hardly asked any questions, as I was trying to soak up as much as possible for myself, and I picked up more than a few useful nuggets. He also touched on the future of the PHP//MySQL combination with the MyQSLnd (“next driver”? I forget now!) driver being developed. There’s some great info in here – listen up!
Also, as a reminder, if you have any job postings for your company, please help build up the WebDevRadio Jobs board at http://jobs.webdevradio.com, and thanks to the first few posters who’ve helped get things rolling.

New WebDevRadio podcast up – SilverStripe CMS interview
SilverStripe is a PHP5-based CMS from down under (New Zealand!). I had a chance to meet with Sigurd Magnusson, one of the project’s founders, and discuss the project’s history, current status as an open source project (BSD-licensed), and where it’s heading. Have a listen!

WebDevRadio podcast – Symfony Project at MySQL User Conference
I had a chance to catch up with the Symfony guys at the MySQL User Conference a few days ago. We get some background on the Symfony project, and a glimpse as to where things are going in the near future.
This was my first ‘from the floor’ recording – I think the levels are *OK*, but please bear with me – Fabien sounded better in person
I think I got a small ‘exclusive/breaking news’ at the time, but I wasn’t able to get the podcast up until now.

Latest podcast up – Codemash Open Spaces – Open Source in .NET
I had a fun time recording this ‘open spaces’ meeting at Codemash last week. This was led by Joe Brinkman from the DotNetNuke project, and joining us was Kevin Devine from the Euclid Public Library, Sara Ford from Codeplex @ Microsoft, Steven Harman from the Subtext project and – shoot – I do not have the contact info for the other gentleman who is on the talk. Oh wait – yes I do – Jay Wren! The sound was *decent*, although there was a shortage of mics. I also accidentally dropped Joe’s volume on a few occasions, but overall it felt like a great chat, so here it is.
Topics include the pros and cons of getting Contributor License Agreements in place on an open source project, building community, a bit of good natured back and forth on Microsoft’s role in all this, interesting comparisons to the Java community, and more.
BTW, this is just a sample of many of the informal chats that happen for 2 days @ codemash. If you like these types of discussions, join us next year!

Latest webdevradio podcast up – Codemash Bull Session
I had a chance to have a fun discussion with Dave Kroondyk, Adam Lumsden and Elizabeth Naramore about web development, ecommerce, project management, content management systems, shark dissection, PHP, Mozilla’s Weave project, general MIchigan awesomeness and some other topics. I was a bit closer to the mike than I should have been, but worse things have happened. Enjoy the eternal optimism of youth distilled in to 45 minutes of listening pleasure. New podcast up
Latest podcast episode up. I cover feedback from the last episode (thanks on the questions answered everyone!). A few news tidbits cropped up – Perl on Rails, Seaside was brought to my attention, I point over to Paul Spoerry’s blog to a great list of resources for web developers, and I wrap up with a question about what collaborative tools you’re all using.

Latest podcast up
I put up a new webdevradio podcast last week, day after Thanksgiving (or was it the day before? I forget now). Anyway, I’ve turned on the comments – apparently there was a bug that was stopping it from working – and am inviting more feedback and audio comments from listeners. The podcast is short this time (15 minutes) but I specifically invite comments on two topics. I get a lot of questions on these two, so I opened up the floor instead of just spouting off.
1. For someone just getting in to web development, what should they study/focus on? LAMP? Java? .NET? Rails? Flash? What would you recommend and why?
2. What are some good resources for learning advanced PHP, and more specifically good PHP OO practices?
There’ve been a few good responses already at http://www.webdevradio.com, but more are always appreciated, either text or audio (just upload an mp3 file!)
Thanks!
